Yaesu FT-710
Supported radio · This page is generated from the program's own FT-710 setup page for version 0.1.5, so it matches the software.
Do this once, before the first time you start the bridge with this radio. See also: supported radio.
What you need
- The radio connected to the PC with a USB cable: the same cable N1MM+ already uses. No other cable or adapter is needed.
- FTDI's LibFT4222 library. The radio sends its scope through an FTDI FT4222 chip inside it, and this library reads that chip. The Windows installer downloads it for you: the Download FTDI's LibFT4222 library option is on by default, and setup checks FTDI's signed files before putting them in the program folder. (Its licence doesn't let us ship it inside this GPL program.) If you installed without it, run setup again with the option ticked, or get LibFT4222 from https://ftdichip.com/products/ft4222h/ and set FTDI library folder in Settings to the unzipped package folder (for example
LibFT4222-v1.4.8). The bridge finds the right DLLs inside it for you: the package keepsLibFT4222-64.dllandftd2xx.dllin different folders. The x64 app needs theamd64ones (also on Windows on ARM), the native ARM64 app thearm64ones, and the 32-bit command-line app thei386ones. Setup can download theamd64andi386DLLs; for the native ARM64 app, get FTDI's package and pick its folder. - The FTDI USB driver, which Windows needs to talk to the scope chip. It normally comes from Windows Update automatically the first time the scope device appears. If Windows doesn't have it, setup offers Install FTDI USB driver (needs administrator). Only that step asks for administrator rights. It installs FTDI's official Microsoft-signed (WHQL) driver package from Microsoft Update Catalog, after checking the download's checksum, the driver's Microsoft signature and that it covers the FT4222H. Why not FTDI's website? ftdichip.com blocks all automated downloads with a "verify you are human" check, so no installer can use it. The DLLs stay in the program's own folder, which needs no administrator rights and can't clash with other FTDI-based programs. Microsoft Update Catalog's FTDI driver package covers 32-bit and 64-bit Intel/AMD Windows only, so setup doesn't offer it on Windows on ARM; there, Windows Update provides the driver if it has one.

SCU-LAN10: ON
Makes the radio send its spectrum scope over USB.
- Menu path: OPERATION SETTING → GENERAL → SCU-LAN10
- Menu number: EX 03-01-26 in Yaesu's CAT manual (
0OFF,1ON)
Button presses:
- Press the [FUNC] knob. The function screen opens.
- Touch OPERATION SETTING.
- Touch GENERAL.
- Touch SCU-LAN10, or turn the [FUNC] knob to it and press the knob.
- Turn the [FUNC] knob, or touch < or > beside the value, until it shows ON.
- Press the [FUNC] knob (or wait about 3 seconds) to save.
- Touch BACK a few times to return to normal operation.
Good to know:
- This menu item is what makes the radio send its spectrum scope over USB (through the FT4222 chip).
- With it OFF, the scope interface doesn't appear on the PC at all, and the bridge reports
Could not open 'FT4222 A'. - ON is the factory default, but it is often switched off.
Scope mode: CENTER
N1MM+'s frequencies are exact only in Center mode. In Cursor or Fixed mode the bridge still streams, but it warns that the frequency edges are approximate.
- Menu path: none. The mode is set with a key on the screen.
- Menu number: none.
Button presses:
- Find the row of keys under the scope (3DSS, MULTI, EXPAND, SPAN, SPEED). The key at the left end shows the current mode: CENTER, CURSOR or FIX.
- Touch that key. Each touch switches to the next mode.
- Stop when it shows CENTER. The top of the scope also shows CENTER, next to the sweep speed and span.
Touch the key briefly: holding it while it shows FIX opens the start-frequency entry instead.
You can also do it from N1MM+: when the scope isn't in Center, the bridge offers ready-to-paste N1MM+ function-key macros that switch it to Center and back. N1MM+ sends them over its own CAT connection when you press the key.
Make the PC see the scope
After turning SCU-LAN10 on:
- Turn the radio off and back on.
- Unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. A power cycle alone is not enough; on the maintainer's FT-710 the scope device only appeared after the cable was replugged.
- Check that the scope device appears: run
n1mm-scope-bridge probe, or press Start in the window. (It shows up as an FTDI FT4222 USB device, VID0x0403, PID0x601C.)
Check it works
- In the bridge's window, press Start: the status pill turns green (Streaming) and the cards show the radio's frequency, span and scope mode.
- The Scope mode card shows Center. If it says Switch the radio to Center, go back to Scope mode.
- Still
Could not open 'FT4222 A'? Check SCU-LAN10 is ON, then repeat the power cycle and USB replug. Close wfview if it is running. More: Troubleshooting.
Undo
- Scope output: set SCU-LAN10 back to OFF with the same button presses.
- Scope mode: touch the scope mode key until it shows the mode you used before (CURSOR or FIX).
